Elaboration and Process
1. Mud Extraction and Preparation
Mud comes from the regions surrounding Puebla such as Calipan and Ajalpan. The mud is mixed with water and it is a process that is done by hand. Once the mud is mixed, it is passed through a “sieve” , a kind of strainer to avoid any impurities. Then it is left to rest in a container until the clay is semi-hydrated like a form of clay to be able to be molded.
2. Pottery Wheel and Drying.
This part is carried out by a specialist craftsmen to be able to design the size and type of piece to be made. In this process, they need a potter wheel, a nylon thread and a sponge to shape the figure.
3. First Batch
The first batch consists of putting the pieces at a temperature of 1796 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. Decorated Pieces:
The decorations of the pieces is only done by skilled artisans and craftsmen who have years of experience. They know exactly what design to give each piece to turn it into a beautiful Talavera Poblana.
5. Second Batch:
Once the pieces are dry, the second batch consists of putting the pieces at a temperature of 1796 degrees Fahrenheit. After this batch, the pieces are carefully checked and inspected so that they successfully posses the quality and detail of our products.
